Abnormals List

ABNORMALS; AN OVERVIEW

Humans are a blind race, especially when it comes to things they believe do not exist, or should not exist. They fear what they cannot explain, and that fear leads to hatred. It only makes sense that some of us should preserve this creatures, or “Abnormals”, as one Doctor Helene Magnus calls them. Abnormals are those who have mutated away from being human, whether through natural events or through something cataclysmal. Some have been known to be created by scientists, but one fact remains the same: they are not entirely human. According to Dr. Magnus, many of the Abnormals have had an influence on human history, although most of the world is unaware of this fact.

These Abnormals have a huge range in abilities, and in my research, not all of them have to be inhuman. Several abilities have been given to humans for unknown reasons, things like empathy or longevity. But many Abnormals are not, in fact, human, and I have comprised a list below of the common ones of the ones who might show up at this Sanctuary.

HUMANOID ABNORMALS

FOLDING MEN

I hypothesize that these creatures were once a part of the human race, but somehow changed, whether it was forced or natural. These Abnormals live all over the world, and most humans do not realize that they walk amongst them. Folding Men have an extremely flexible skeleton that allow them to fit into spaces no ordinary human could get into. It causes them considerable pain to do this, though there is a gold anti-pain based chemical. I must advise against using this, though, because it is extremely addictive for most Folding Men.

WEREWOLVES

Through various studies and tests, we have found that the wolf-like humanoid creatures called werewolves are a subspecies of humans, or a class nine hyper-accelerated protean (or abbreviated HAP) life form. Similar to vampires, the werewolf species was hunted to near extinction by humans, and only small pockets remain. There are pills to keep a werewolves’ true nature suppressed, although the drug is very addicting and can cause violence if taken off suddenly.

MERFOLK

Merfolk are a race of aquatic Abnormals that are native to the Bermuda Triangle. The females are often referred to as mermaids or sirens, although the legends of them leading men to their deaths are false. They are normally very shy, very delicate creatures who hate violence. They tend to keep to themselves, and it takes a lot for them to trust outsiders. They have a form of telepathy that makes it possible for Merfolk to communicate with humans.

VAMPIRES

Vampires, (scientific name Sanguine vampiris, known to the ancient Sumerians and Praxians as Ahkaru) were a powerful species who in ancient times enslaved humanity. Eventually the humans rose up against their oppressors and hunted them to extinction. Vampires were highly sophisticated, well above humans, and were known for their advances in medicine, art, architecture and science. Humans drove them underground and slaughtered most of them, and the world plunged into what is known as the Dark Ages. Vampires possesses the ability to reproduce with humans, as it has been shown with Nikola Tesla that vampire genes can remain dormant for centuries. Theoretically, Nikola Tesla is the only living vampire left, though no one truly knows who has the dormant genes.

SASQUACH

The only known member of this race is a man affectionately called “Big Guy” by Dr. Helene Magnus. This race is tall and has an almost dog like snout. They are intelligent, shown by Big Guy’s ability to work computers and drive cars. They are docile creatures, though when needed, strong fighters. They have a very strong immune system, and it takes a lot to kill one of them. Magnus tells me that there are others of its kind, though there are no known records.

KEEPERS OF THE DEAD

Keepers of the Dead are hypothesized to be an offshoot of humans that have been genetically modified to be extremely violent and dangerous. The Cabal often use them to guard their warehouses, as they are nearly impossible to kill and guard things ferociously. They were known to guard the crypt of the Morrigan.

NON-HUMANOID ABNORMALS

ELEMENTALS

Elementals are creatures that are made out of their specific element, and consume everything in their path. The most common one is a Fire Elemental, a creature of living fire, which can be found at the Old City Sanctuary. The known Elementals are Water, Fire, Earth, and Air, and are very rare.

VAMPIRE SQUID

A very rare, almost extinct, species of Abnormal Squid. It does not suck blood, but gets it’s “vampire” name because of it’s heightened intelligence. Though they are huge, about the size of a giant squid, they are normally very peaceful and docile, preferring to feed on plankton than anything else.

NUBBINS

Nubbins are a species of small, round, furry animals that were named by the deceased Ashley Magnus. They breed faster than rabbits and have a well developed camouflage system that makes them nearly invisible. In large numbers they are capable of taking down predators. The cold is usually what keeps them calm, so if you have one as a pet, keep it in a cold, glass container. Nubbins have a strange affect on humans during their breeding cycle, causing them to be aroused and lose their sexual inhibitions; this does not affect Abnormals, who normally just get a hay-fever reaction.

NUBBINS PREDATOR

A mixture of a bear, wolf, and large cat that hunts Nubbins. It also has the ability to turn invisible.

HUMAN ABNORMALS

Some humans are born with Abnormal traits, such as empathy, while others somehow get infected or others contract their abnormality. The list below is not a complete one, but it is of the most common.

LONGEVITY

The perfect example for one with the power of Longevity is Dr. Magnus. It has been 158 years since she was born, and she has shown no obvious signs of aging past mid-thirties to forties. It is unknown how long a person with this Abnormal trait will live, or what side effects there are.

HIGHTENED INTELLIGENCE

Dr. Watson is the greatest example of this. Those with this Abnormal trait have a heightened state of intelligence, and their IQ is often off the charts. When these people are younger, they often have to have something to constantly occupy their mind, or they will go mad. Very little can puzzle those with this trait, and they can make excellent detectives.

INVISIBILITY

This is the ability to turn oneself invisible. According to John Druitt, this is possible by turning ones molecules photosensitive, therefore impossible to see with the naked eye. Some may have trouble with controlling it in the beginning, though Nigel Griffin was reportedly able to do it at will.

TELEPORTATION

The ability to transport oneself from one place to another. John Druitt has been using this power for centuries, and can teleport himself long distances. Younger Abnormals may find it difficult and exhausting to teleport great distances, and it takes a lot of practice to end up where you want to get. Sanctuaries have EM shields around them, preventing teleporters from getting into them.

EMPATHY

The ability to feel others emotions is the one of the more common for these Abnormal humans. They can easily read others emotions, sometimes feeling it as their own. It is reportedly very painful to those who don’t know how to control this trait.

TELEPATHY

Another common Abnormal trait is the transfer of thoughts from one being to another. Merfolk have this sort of telepathy, though it normally only works with one person at a time.

EXTRA APPENDAGES

Sometimes due to a chemical break out, other times to a twist in genetics, this Abnormal trait can be just about anything. Dr. Magnus reported of a child who had a snake-like arm attached to his side, a self-defense mechanism to protect him when he was afraid that was caused from nuclear radiation. There have also been cases where things like wings have been caused by a twist in genetics, something very few can explain.

ELEMENTAL CONTROL

Unlike the pure Elementals, these humans have the ability to control a certain element. It takes a great deal of control, and often the person is surrounded by accidents. The most common seems to be ice control, although other elements have been reported. No record of any one person having two elemental powers had been found.
